Arnold Hall serves the United States Air Force Academy as the entertainment hub for both Cadet Wing and community functions. Hosting diverse functions such as briefings, concerts, dances, Broadway shows, and official Academy functions, the historic facility requires constant adaptation and flexibility.
The client’s list of desired renovations to the facility was known to exceed the anticipated pre-design budget, and the design process also uncovered additional needed repairs and upgrades to the building. To address this challenge, the SE design team formulated the project documents as a series of small projects, allowing for final selection by the client of the ultimate scope after construction bid (in the form of add-alternates).
Ultimately, the majority of the upgrades were included in the construction project, with only a few withheld due to anticipated future expansions and use changes.
SE provided overall design and management for the complete programming, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical services.
Additional expertise was provided through sub-consultants in theatre design, fire protection systems, and hazardous material analysis.
Project development proceeded from schematic design through construction documentation, including space planning, building systems engineering, multi-discipline coordination, and historic preservation.
The project met the stringent requirements for USAFA design and CAD standards, as well as LEED and historic preservation guidelines.
