SE Completes Parking Lot Solar Project

In 2021, Samuel Engineering decided to best utilize its headquarters by adding Mechatron dual-axis trackers to the parking lot premises.

SE is the standing owner and operator of the impressive solar visual.  The project consists of one of the largest types of dual axis trackers on the market.  The trackers combined will produce an estimated amount of 664 MWh of electric energy per year.  The project also helps reduce CO2 by up to 450 tons a year, based on the national average CO2 output rate for generated electricity.

Although the dual tracker’s have the capability of rotating 360 degrees in azimuth and can tilt up to 60 degrees, each tracker will change in azimuth and tilt to keep the sun perpendicular to the solar modules.  The trackers are also designed to include safety precautions and regulations.  To do so, each tracker has a limited tilt to maintain a minimum clearance of 8’2″ for vehicles to park underneath.

Other interesting features include wind/snow sensors, and a connection to the building’s fire alarm system.  They are programmed to go completely horizontal in case of high winds or a fire alarm.  For snow, they are programmed to go to a 40 degree tilt.
